November 23: Inside Framing Progress

August 14, 2019

Now that things are starting to happen pretty fast, I’m trying to stop by the house at least once a week to keep up with the construction progress. This tour of the inside framing is followed up by a video message I sent to my builder after discovering an error in the front entry where I had paid them $150 to eliminate the closet, (Remember my first meeting with Brian where he made me initial all changes? This was one of them.) It took weeks to get the closet removed, and that didn’t happen until they had already installed the outlets and light switches in the wrong place in the foyer. Just one of the frustrations of building from scratch with a large builder— Communication is not always the best. AND THEY DON’T LIKE CHANGES! — Even if planned from the beginning!

Christmas Concert at the RiverTown Amphitheater Dec. 8

In December, I enjoyed listening to the Christmas Concert performed by the St. Augustine Orchestra, a group of volunteer musicians most of whom have day jobs. It was a great mixture of both traditional and contemporary holiday music. The concert was held in the beautiful RiverTown Amphitheater, next to the St. Johns River and Santa visited to pose with the children for pictures. Neighborhood families enjoyed a dance performance by some of the younger members of the community. I was joined by many of the friends I have already made in this awesome community!

I'm Back!

August 10, 2019

Hello Friends! Yes, I am still alive and well. I apologize for disappearing after my last post (was it really way back in November??), but my life has been crazy since then. Late November was very busy as I prepared for and then threw a fun Customer Appreciation Dinner/Dance at RiverTown’s River House facility—what an amazing venue! Then I scrambled to finish out my business year with enough closings to provide the income in order to qualify for my mortgage. Somehow I managed to fit in a family trip to Disney World and a full Christmas Holiday Celebration. I spent a lot of January working on my taxes, again in an effort to achieve my final mortgage approval.. Once that was achieved and my move became a reality, I spent the next 2 months and beaucoups $ preparing my Julington Creek Home for market. I finally closed on my new Rivertown house on March 29 and started my actual move on April 17. That process took about a month as I moved furniture, staged my other house, listed it for sale, and made what seemed like dozens of trips between houses and donation sites, clearing out all of the miscellaneous “treasures” I had accumulated over the 15+ years I had lived there.

I have been scrambling to finish a myriad of projects at my new home and finally began the fun of entertaining in my new home last month, even though I still have enough projects to keep me busy for months to come!

I will be posting photos, videos and other details of all of these activities as well as documentation of the construction hi-lights and some of the additional community activities I have been enjoying over the coming weeks, so check back frequently for updates! This truly is an amazing community!!

Making New Friends at the RiverTown Hoe Down!

November 19, 2018

One of the things that most excites me about RiverTown is how easy it is to make new friends. Each month there is a full calendar of social activities that I started enjoying the day I signed my contract. Last night the community sponsored a Hoe Down with a live band, Chili Cook-Off, Corn Hole, and refreshments available for sale at the Cafe. The admission cost was only $5/person and the chili was free to sample with the winners taking home gift cards. I enjoyed a glass of Sangria and a variety of beers and wines were also available as was the regular Cafe menu. I had a great time visiting with friends I had already made through the ballroom dancing classes and can’t wait to actually live in this awesome community.—Next time I’ll be able to walk home!

My Little House is Vertical!!

November 15, 2018

I got a call the other day from my builder, Brian, who called with an update for me saying my framing was now complete—I of course rushed on over to RiverTown to find this little wooden house that has risen from my slab in only two weeks! Wow!

According to Brian, the trades, including electrical, plumbing and HVAC will be coming in next to get all the behind the walls work done. Then Brian and I will do a framing walk-through meeting and another inspection will take place before the drywall is installed to close everything else. Very exciting progress!
